Paul Cezanne and The Bibemus quarries

The quarry of Bibemus with its ocher rock never ceased to inspire Paul Cezanne: he created his best canvas on this site. We'll take a pathway between the immense blocks of rock within the green surroundings, to understand the special bond that linked the artist to this wild nature of contrasts.

Come discover the Grand Site Concors Sainte-Victoire, protected wildlife reserve and mountain range. Come and see how mineral meet vegetal in this mediterrranean pine wood. A guided tour along a circuit will tell you all about the painter Paul Cézanne and his stay in Provence. He walked the countryside with his painting material to paint the Ste-Victoire mount. Well' show you reproductions of his masterpieces spread in the wood. Discover the ochre sandstone rocks used to build the town of Aix-en-Provence.

Meeting point at the Bibemus quarry gate (parking spaces are limited) come 15 minutes in advance to find a spot.

Access to the site :
● With your own vehicle : Meeting 20 min before at the Parking des 3 Bons Dieux (Coord. GPS : 43.53491, 5.47560), then convoy by car to the site (the site’s access by car is regulated – presence of a bollard on Chemin de Bibémus). In case of lateness, even slight, please call the activity provider.
● By taxi, bike or by foot : Warn the guide – Meeting 10 min before on the parking at 3080 chemin de Bibemus by the gate DFCI (Coord. GPS : 43.53115, 5.50058 ).
● In case of lateness, the guide may refuse you the access to the visit : no refunds would be possible.
